Singer Robert Raymond “Bobby” Hendricks was born in Columbus, Ohio on February 22, 1938 and from the age of 16 had a career with several vocal groups leading to membership of The Drifters (he sang lead on their single Drip Drop).
Itchy was his main solo hit, in 1958, and was first issued in the UK on London American 45-HL 8714.
He continued to perform as one of The Original Drifters.
The UK Sue single has his name incorrectly credited as “Henricks”.
On the recording he is backed by The Coasters, who could not be credited for contractual reasons.
Mr. Hendricks died from complications from Altzheimer’s Disease at his home in Lancaster, California, on 25 March 2022, aged 84 years.
