Jazz pianist and band leader Robert Dale "Bobby" Peterson, nicknamed "Uncle Knuckles", was born into a musical and jazz family in Chester, Pennsylvania, on February 16, 1950.
Classic 45s notes: "His musical style was characterized by his emotive vocals and intricate piano playing, drawing from both traditional blues and jazz influences. Despite his relatively short career, Peterson's music had a significant impact on the development of both genres, particularly in the use of piano as a lead instrument."
The band were playing in clubs when talent scout and promoter Lawrence Kerrin introduced the band to Venton L. "Buddy" Caldwell, who operated his new V-Tone label out of the back of his upholstery store on Ridge Avenue.
The quintet were Robert D. “Bobby” Peterson, David Butler, Chico Green, Jamo Thomas and Joe Pyatt. The recordings for V Tone Records were made between 1959 and 1962. The Quintet then disbanded.
Bobby Peterson died in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, on July 08, 2002.
