Songwriter, scientist, medical researcher, medical teacher, mentor, manager and publicist Roosevelt Jamison was born in Olive Branch, Mississippi, on 15 July 1936. He was interested in medicine and music and became famous in the 1960s for his song writing and his contribution to Memphis' music scene, with his most famous song, "That's How Strong My Love Is" appearing in 1964. He discovered the singers James Carr and O. V. Wright. After a contract dispute with Don Robey, he concentrated on managing James Carr.
He researched Sickle Cell at the University of Tennessee and taught anatomy and physiology for a number of years. Until he retired he also worked at the City of Memphis Hospital.
Roosevelt Jamison died at his home in Memphis on 27 March, 2013.
