Roscoe Shelton was born on August 22, 1931. He first came to attention singing with gospel groups The Fireside Gospel Singers and The Fairfield Four. In the book “Just my soul responding”, Brian Ward notes that Shelton once had to hide under his car to escape being beaten up by Klansmen in Mississippi. Roscoe Shelton died on July 27, 2002 of unknown causes.
“Strain on my heart” was his best selling record and was made in 1964. It was issued on Sue WI 354. On many copies, the labels were reversed.
